Job Description:
Montana Instruments, a growing high-tech Company in Bozeman Montana, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Product Development team. The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading all aspects of electrical engineering design, analysis, prototyping, test, and documentation of electronic component and assemblies for Montana Instruments technology and products.  This position supports new product introductions as well as sustaining engineering efforts; striving to release designs on schedule and under budget while meeting internal and external customers’ expectations and specifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Analog and digital circuit design for scientific instruments and devices
  • Prototype and test circuit designs in an electronics lab environment
  • Perform hardware performance evaluation tests and data analysis
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout for sensitive analog and high-speed digital devices
  • Develop production test systems and methods for electronics devices
  • Generate and maintain electrical engineering documentation and test procedures
  • Design PCBA testing for contract manufacturers
  • Participate in technical design reviews
  • Write instrumentation firmware in VHDL and C
  • Assist in implementing PCBA design standards and rules at MI
  • Interface with vendors about part specification and manufacturing details
  • Manage own time as well as lead projects when required
  • Support released products and parts in a timely manner to avoid distraction from development work
  • Works across company departments to communicate needs, clear project roadblocks, accomplish tasks, and align work with company priorities
  • Implement PCBA and electrical design standards and rules at MI and champion their use
  • Design PCBA testing for contract manufacturers
  • Perform root cause and failure analysis on electrical designs and components
  • Mentor and lead less experienced electrical engineers
  • Critical project and technical leadership
  • May supervise the work of others

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 8+ years relevant work experience
  • Project Management Experience
  • Experience managing teams

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • Knowledge of electrical circuit operations
  • Knowledge of analog and digital design basics
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Understanding of low noise analog electronics
  • Mixed signal, A/D and D/A interfaces
  • Xilinx ISE and Vivado
  • Low level signal measurement
  • Self-starter, able to work in a fast-paced environment with accuracy/efficiency
  • Demonstrates ability to make decisions and drive results
  • Knowledge best practices and design standards for electrical circuits and components
  • Working knowledge of design and documentation requirements for contract manufacturers
  • Experience with PCBA testing methodologies such as FCT/ICT, bed of nails and flying probe
  • Ability to work independently
  • Familiarity with developing and introducing new products to market
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Proficient with Altium Designer and other schematic tools
  • Proficient with circuit simulation using LTSpice or similar
  • Experience with ERP systems and understanding of engineering interface with these systems
  • Experience with design for CE requirements
  • Experience in product life cycle management process
  • Strong experience developing and introducing new products to market
  • Strong knowledge of PCBA documentation standards for contract manufacturers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of root cause analysis tools and methods
